PVC Electrical Tape

As the name suggests, PVC electrical tape is used for electrical applications i.e. insulating. The tape is made using a popular plastic called PVC or Polyvinyl chloride. Some of the main properties/features that make the tape popular include; variety, good insulation, long-lasting stickiness and affordable pricing. The tape also has good temperature tolerance i.e. can work effectively in mild surroundings with temperatures below 80 degrees Celsius. As mentioned above the tape is mostly used for insulating applications i.e. insulating electrical equipment wires. The wires must however carry currents below 600V. In regards to packaging, PVC electrical tapes are packed according to customer specifications or requirements.

It is important to note that PVC electrical tape isn’t made using PVC only. The tape has backing material coated using rubber sensitive adhesive. This material gives the tape strength which is important for avoiding unnecessary breakages. In regards to application and characteristics, PVC tape is resistant to extreme weather and high voltages. The tape comes in varied lengths. The most common PVC electrical tape length is; 5Y, 10Y and 20Y by 5m, 10m and 20m respectively. The most common width measurements include; 12, 15, 17, 18, 19, 25, 48 and 50mm. It is however important to note that you can get any desired tape length and width on request.

Common types of PVC electrical tape
There are very many types of PVC electrical tapes. Below are three common types.

1. PVC Electrical insulation tape
This is one of the most common types of PVC electrical tapes. As the name suggests, the tape is specifically meant for insulation applications. The tape is sold in a variety of colors the most common color being black. The tape’s thickness range varies between 0.13 and 0.2mm. The length varies between 5 and 33m. The most common width range is 19 – 1130mm. The tape utilizes rubber based adhesive. PVC Electrical insulation tape is undoubtedly one of the best insulation tapes in the market today.

2. Shinny PVC electrical tape
This is another common type of PVC electrical tape. It is important to note that PVC electrical tapes can be categorized according to design. Shinny PVC electrical tape is a perfect example of an electrical tape categorized according to design. The tape is ideal for a number of applications. For instance, the tape is common in automobile, refrigeration and electrical wiring applications. This is mainly because the tape has excellent properties i.e. the tape is attractive and flexible. The tape also has good viscosity, high tensile strength, is burn resistant, moisture proof and is capable of withstanding high voltage.

3. Weather Resistant PVC Electrical Tape
As the name suggests, this tape is resistant to extreme weather conditions. The tape also has other incredible features i.e. flexibility, strong retract ability and durability. Like the above types of PVC electrical tapes, weather resistant PVC electrical tapes are sold in a wide variety of colors, designs and sizes. The tape is made using a flame retardant material; soft polyvinylchloride (SPVC) as the backing material. This material gives the tape its special weather resistant features. Like the above tapes, weather resistant PVC electrical tapes are common in automobile and electronic industry applications.
